Connecticut Casino Owners Provide Money and Expertise To Racino - 2004-02-19
The Mashantucket Pequots, proprietors of Foxwoods Resort Casino, are lending money and expertise to two American Indian tribes in Maine that anticipate running a slot machine operation at a harness track in Bangor.

Horse and dog track operators within the country have installed slot machines over the past several years to offset lagging revenues. Racinos are popular -- and highly lucrative ---- even though they do not have table games or offer the level of amenities found at full-scale casinos.

Casino-Racetrack Agreement Is Approaching for New Jersey Meadowlands - 2004-02-19
A settlement to funnel millions of dollars from Atlantic City casinos to the Meadowlands Racetrack and Monmouth Park is approaching completion, officials stated Wednesday.

The New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority would accept the cash from Atlantic City casinos and in turn defer deliberations over installing video lottery terminals, which are similar to slot machines, at the racetracks.
