Clerk suspected of theft and murder - 2004-02-19
A law clerk coordinated his employer's murder after using clients' funds to finance heavy gamblers at the casino, a jury was told yesterday.
Prosecutor Colin Hillman, SC, explained that Julian Michael Clarke, 47, then set up a "smokescreen" by pretending his victim, mild-mannered solicitor Keith William Allan, had disappeared of his own accord.

Mr. Hillman revealed money was put through Mr. Allan's trust account to help generate a credit system at the casino for gamblers including Frank De Stefano.

Casino maintains word on payout despite jackpot glitch - 2004-02-19
Grandwest Casino will honour jackpot payouts amounting R355 970 to six punters following Monday's computer glitch on some of the casino's slot machines.

This ruling followed a probe by the casino into the malfunction, after the punters complained about being refused payment when the slot machines indicated that they had hit the jackpot.
