Anti-Gambling Organization Seeks Indian Casino Moratorium - 2004-02-20
A national antigambling organization is requesting a moratorium on Indian casinos in a bid to delay plans by the Bay State's Nipmuc Nation and dozens of other American Indian tribes to roll out giant gambling resorts.

The Washington-based National Coalition Against Gambling Expansion wants President Bush to stop granting tribal recognition and casino venture permits, in addition to a pending decision by the Bureau of Indian Affairs on whether to formally acknowledge the Sutton-based Nipmucs.

Danbury, Connecticut, Suggested as Casino Site - 2004-02-20
From some viewpoints — especially those outside western Connecticut — Danbury would be a great location for a new casino.
While casino developers use a multitude of criteria to rank sites, two crucial needs are good road access and proximity to a big city.

"Danbury is mid-way between New York City and Hartford. It's on Interstate 84," explained Gary Thompson, spokesman for Harrah's Entertainment of Las Vegas, a firm that operates 21 commercial casinos and four casinos for American Indian tribes.
