Legislature folds one-casino measure - 2004-02-20
When the Legislature adjourned for the day, the proposed constitutional amendment approving up to eight casinos in the state stayed intact, but stalled at the second stage of floor consideration.

Schimek named eight of the 19 senators who voted for the one-casino plan as foes of expanded gambling who may not actually vote to enact the measure. On the other side of the fence, she explained, a one-casino plan would lose the support of some senators who have agreed to the eight-casino proposal.

Lottery difficulties could threaen 'racino' plan - 2004-02-20
Turmoil surrounding the Minnesota State Lottery could stymie attempts by the proprietors of Canterbury Park racetrack to win legislative authorization for a casino, some legislators statedThursday.

A bill that passed the state House last year and is pending in the Senate requests for the lottery to own a casino at the track and contract with a private company to run it.
