Lottery issues could threaten plan for slots at Canterbury - 2004-02-20
A plan to put slot machines at Canterbury Park could face an even more difficult time in light of recent controversy over the Minnesota State Lottery, some legislators reported.

That's because the measure that passed the House last year and is pending in the Senate calls for the lottery to run a casino at the track and contract with a private company to operate it.

MTR Gaming enters deal on Minnesota track - 2004-02-20
West Virginia-based MTR Gaming Group has signed a deal to invest $7.5 million for a 50 percent share in a proposed Minnesota harness racing track.

The announcement on Friday came a day following MTR's announcement that it intends to buy the historic Binion's Horseshoe Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.
Southwest Casino and Hotel Corp. officials have asked the Legislature to permit simulcasts of thoroughbred racing as well.
