"It's a catastrophe for us," Sen. Chris Beutler of Lincoln expressed, "a failure by the governor and two attorneys general not to settle. Now our leverage is almost nil."

Gov. Mike Johanns "should cut the state's losses now," Sen. Ernie Chambers of Omaha stated. "Bail out. Terminate legal action. You've got to know when to hold them and know when you fold them."
Legislative venting peppered deliberation on a proposal to approve a single gambling casino in Nebraska, prompting Sen. Gene Tyson of Norfolk to suggest that it be called the "E. Benjamin Nelson Memorial Casino."

There are sufficient candidates for the March 30 White Earth primary election to field a football team.

Wadena - the dominant power in White Earth government for over 20 years - was convicted in 1996 of several felony charges connected to the tribe’s casino gambling venture, including conspiracy, theft, fraud and money laundering. He was sentenced to four years and three months in prison, and commanded to pay $585,287 in restitution and a $50,000 fine.
