Rain forest money connected to gambling - 2004-02-20
Up to $40 million in additional funding for a proposed indoor rain forest and education complex hinges on a gambling discussion just getting heated up at the Statehouse in Des Moines, Gov. Tom Vilsack reported Thursday.

Discussion on a gambling bill that could make it easier to fund the program launches next week in Des Moines. The bill makes serious changes to the state's gaming legislation and calls for up to five more casino licenses.

Neighboring Tribe Contests New Yuba Indian-Owned Casino - 2004-02-20
The tribe that operates Colusa Casino says it opposes the Enterprise Rancheria hotel-casino in Yuba County.
The Executive Committee of the Cachil Dehe Band of Wintun Indians of the Colusa Indian Community has supported a resolution against the Butte County tribe's request to the federal government to seize 40 acres into trust in Yuba County.

The resolution recognized that the Yuba County casino "would have a devastating economic impact" on the Colusa tribe, which "because of its remote location ... would be unable to respond."
