Downtown Las Vegas Landowners Contest Potential Casino Purchase - 2004-02-20
Proprietors of the land under Binion's Horseshoe are declining to go along with the proposed sale of the hotel-casino to MTR Gaming Group, even while trade analysts and downtown businesses are applauding Harrah's Entertainment's plans for the property.

The attorneys reported the state Gaming Control Board will have to look into the question of the lease rights to the land prior to approving license applications submitted by MTR and Harrah's Wednesday to own and operate a hotel-casino at the downtown site.

Proprietor of Fitzgeralds Hotel-Casino Optimistic About Downtown Las Vegas' Future - 2004-02-20
Downtown Las Vegas is changing for the better, as "fresh capital and fresh ideas" continue to pour into the region, the owner of Fitzgeralds stated Thursday.

Preliminary plans call for the new hotel-casino to go up in two phases. The casino and an entertainment facility will consist of the first phase; a four- or five-star hotel will come in the second phase.
