New strategy in attempts to get Lake Tahoe pier authorization - 2004-02-21
Casino lobbyist Harvey Whittemore and liquor merchant Larry Ruvo, failing so far in federal court attempts to build a big pier on Tahoe’s upscale Glenbrook Bay, are trying another strategy involving a nearby historic property that eventually may go to Nevada’s museum system.

The move has set off a legal fight in San Mateo County, Calif., Superior Court, where a March 4 hearing is planned on an estate trustee’s request to move forward with the plan for an almost $1 million, 300-foot pier with up to three boat lifts.

Gambling ship receiving applications at job fair - 2004-02-21
The gambling ship scheduled to run from St. Peterburg's port took applications for 700 jobs at a job fair Friday.

Titan Cruise Lines' Ocean Jewel of St. Petersburg is scheduled to start offering gambling cruises in the Gulf of Mexico on June 30. The ship, which is in Tampa for refurbishment, will have a casino, several restaurants and private party rooms.
