Kuiper, Grogan raise the heat at forum - 2004-02-21
The conflicts between the candidates for the District 2 seat on the county Board of Supervisors were sharply drawn Thursday night in the Imperial Irrigation District's Condit Auditorium.
The candidates were probed regarding an Indian casino possibly coming into the county within close proximity to Highway 111.

Kuiper, after joking about his own gambling penchant, stated the casino plans are still way off and local governments require guarantees for police and fire coverage.

Casino opponents picking up steam - 2004-02-21
Concerned Citizens Against the Casino is still trailing behind its pro-casino counterpart in generating campaign cash, but the movement is picking up more steam, according to the most recent campaign statements.

The anti-casino group has generated about $12,300 since Jan. 17, the largest donor being the Hesperia Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at nearly $5,000.
The previous campaign statement showed the group had generated an estimated $3,700.
