No backing for casinos, official reports - 2004-02-21
Iowa's chief gambling regulator stated Friday he doesn't sense a groundswell of public approval for an expansion of the state's casino trade.

Michael Mahaffey of Montezuma, chairman of the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission, stated he was reached by scores of Iowans last fall when the commission contemplated lifting a moratorium on awarding new casino licenses.

Big-boat legislation finally makes it easier for canals - 2004-02-21
After years of complaints from homeowners in Port Largo in Key Largo, the County Commission on Wednesday passed an ordinance targeted toward limiting the size of vessels that can access manmade canals.

Some Key Largo residents feel the ordinance is aimed straight at the region's casino boat, SunCruz. In past years, homeowners along the Port Largo canal have complained that the 87-foot-long SunCruz has struck docks and docked boats on several occasions.
