Woman to be indicted in casino fraud - 2004-02-21
A 47-year-old Gardnerville woman suspected of stealing over $800,000 from Harrah's Lake Tahoe is expected to appear in court Tuesday for arraignment on criminal charges of theft.

Patricia Diaz is charged by the Douglas County District Attorney's Office with grand theft, a Category B felony.
She was arrested April 30, 2003, after employees at Caesars Tahoe and Lake Tahoe Horizon Casino Resort suspected a woman cashing in $2,500 worth of Harrah's chips once and sometimes twice a week, according to a State Gaming Control Board affidavit.

Supreme Court inquires about gambling suit - 2004-02-21
In a rare motion, the state Supreme Court has requested attorneys for Gov. Jim Doyle and Republican legislators to clarify a GOP lawsuit alleging Doyle overstepped his authority when he bargained an altered gambling compact with the Forest County Potawatomi.

The lawsuit, filed by Assembly Speaker John Gard, R-Peshtigo, and Senate Majority Leader Mary Panzer, R-West Bend, stated Doyle didn’t have the authority to allow the tribe add roulette, craps and poker and expand hours at its Milwaukee casino.
