Legislators want BIA appeal rights - 2004-02-21
The Connecticut congressional delegation Thursday encouraged the federal Bureau of Indian Affairs to permit cities and towns to keep their rights of appeal before the Interior Board of Indian Appeals.

On Jan. 29, the Bureau of Indian Affairs awarded federal recognition to the Kent-based Schaghticoke Tribal Nation. The ruling set off a barrage of objections by Connecticut politicians, many of whom fear that the tribe may want to construct a casino in Fairfield County.

North Stonington plays its own game of hide and seek - 2004-02-21
A proposal to post signs welcoming people to town is provoking a debate over whether officials should advertise North Stonington or permit it to remain obscure.

First Selectman Nicholas H. Mullane II stated that he recalled a consultant for the conservation and development plan advising against putting up welcome signs, declaring they might wrongly link the town as a destination spot connected to Foxwoods Resort Casino.
