Trouble at Castaways apparent to workers left in limbo by closure - 2004-02-22
Pamela Calhoun confesses she's no financial genius, but she knew the bottom line.
After almost 14 years working in the casino cage at the Castaways, she witnessed trouble for months before its abrupt closure on Jan. 29.

Calhoun and other former staff members I've interviewed wonder why it took so much longer for state and federal officials, people with the power to supervise the faltering gambling hall, to step in. She believes swifter action might have impeded a lot of misery for hundreds of fired employees.

Thoro-Graph proprietor Brown commences new business offering rebates - 2004-02-22
Jerry Brown, owner of the Thoro-Graph handicapping service, has created a company offering rebates to high-volume bettors.
Brown notified Daily Racing Form that e-mails about the new venture were delivered recently to between 500 and 1,000 customers of Thoro-Graph.

Johnson, who has been connected with a Native American casino in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, would not disclose to the Form which rebate shop would be used by the new company.
