Senate committee to analyze racetrack VLT topic - 2004-02-22
The topic of video lottery terminals at New Jersey’s racetracks is to be examined by a newly formed Senate committee in Trenton on Monday, though the state comes close to a possible deal with Atlantic City’s casino trade that would prevent the state from installing the machines at any track for four years.

Senator Barbara Buono (D-Middlesex), chairwoman of the Senate Committee on Wagering, Tourism, and Historic Preservation, told the Press of Atlantic City that in spite of negotiations with the casinos, the economic impact of VLTs merited study.

Feds Associated With Tribe Influence for New Casino - 2004-02-22
A once-tiny, almost destitute American Indian tribe is urging to construct a $100 million casino - but it's not conventional tribal associates gunning for wealth.

Regional BIA officials initialized the membership against the traditional leaders' wishes to include associates from two other bands in the region. The federal officials then oversaw an Aug. 10, 2002, election that swapped the old leaders for a pro-casino group that includes some of the BIA staff members themselves.
