Gambling measure still suspended - 2004-02-23
Last summer, the state House and Senate passed different bills authorizing slot machines, but when legislators were set to vote on final legislation in December, legislative leaders got cold feet.
"It fell apart because of Indian casino gambling," explained state Rep. Daylin Leach, D-149 Dist.
At the 11th hour, Sen. Vincent Fumo, D-Phila., quashed the vote, worrying that if Pennsylvania omitted the possibility of a future American Indian-run casino, the state stood to lose any of that revenue.
