Packer to Regain Casino Asset - 2004-02-23
Kerry Packer is poised to regain $3 million (US$2.3 million) of his investment in Burswood on the back of a profit revival which has also sparked renewed gossip about a takeover proposal by the billionaire.

Just four weeks after flagging a $23 million first half profit, the casino operator unveiled it had in fact made $24.1 million for the six months to December 31, thanks partly to a new range of electronic games and a lucky run against international gamblers.

Nebraska Casino Measure Suspends - 2004-02-23
The legislative plan to approve up to eight gambling casinos in Nebraska remained stuck Friday at the second round of floor consideration.

The Legislature rejected a proposed amendment to write into the state constitution language requiring consituent approval for location of a casino in their county. The proposal, written by Sen. Adrian Smith of Gering, was denied on a 20-18 count.
