Washington Compulsive Gambling Escalates with Casino Growth - 2004-02-23
As legalized gambling continues its rapid rise in Washington, the quiet, parallel growth of problem gambling has marched right along with it -- often with dangerous consequences.

Gambling profits statewide grew to over $1.3 billion last year, 16 percent greater than in fiscal 2002 and more than double the revenues reported in 1998.

Casino Countermeasures in the Game of Blackjack - 2004-02-23
Thank you for informing me about Sharpshooter in your book on craps. Friends have told me that with all of the casino's countermeasures against card counters that you cannot count cards or even expect to win in any of these games.

The casinos have definitely made it harder for card counters to win and they have, by making games use continuous shuffle machines, having the dealer hit on soft 17, and making single-deck games with a 6 to 5 blackjack payout, also made it very hard for all players to come home on a given night with any money.
