Racing leaders still interested in slots despite casino agreement - 2004-02-24
In spite of an agreement that would have the Atlantic City casino trade paying a $20-million subsidy to the racing industry annually for the next four years, horse racing backers are pushing for a 2006 vote on a constitutional amendment to permit racetrack slot machines when the casino subsidy deal expires.
The New Jersey Senate Wagering, Tourism, and Historic Preservation Committee deliberated the expanded gaming issue on Monday and heard testimony from casino and racetrack representatives.
