Bid to rezone industrial property in NLV scrutinized - 2004-02-24
A proposal to rezone 50 acres of industrial property to permit construction of a commercial center and apartments was scrutinized Monday by North Las Vegas city planners, and locals and property owners close to the site.

George Garcia, the consultant representing the property owners for the project, Wesley Adams and the Losee/Craig LLC, claimed deviating from current zoning for different types of development isn't always bad. He pointed to the Cannery, a new casino with a 200-room hotel on Craig Road, which needed a change from industrial to commercial zoning for its construction.

Prime title fight nearly finalized - 2004-02-24
The dates are scheduled and so is the site. Now all promoter Bob Arum needs is a signature from middleweight champion Bernard Hopkins to complete his two-fight agreement with Oscar De La Hoya.

Arum stated he finalized a handshake agreement Monday for the MGM Grand hotel-casino to host a June 5 fight card including Hopkins and De La Hoya in separate fights. If they win as expected, they will convene Sept.18 at the MGM for the middleweight title.
