Mayor encourages authorization of casino agreement - 2004-02-25
Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick declined to let a recent spate of violence overtake his State of the City speech Tuesday, rather using the occasion to unveil new development initiatives and encourage approval of a casino agreement.

Kilpatrick encouraged City Council to withdraw its objection to an agreement in a lawsuit brought by the Lac Vieux Desert Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians, which claims its constitutional rights were breached in the awarding of casino licenses.

Three finalists listed for Illinois casino license - 2004-02-25
The Illinois Gaming Board on Wednesday listed three finalists for a dormant casino gaming license the state is anticipating to sell to aid its ailing budget.

Finalists selected by the board were Harrah's Entertainment Inc, which proposed $375 million to operate a casino in Waukegan; Isle of Capri Casinos Inc., which proposed $351 million for a casino in Rosemont; and privately held Midwest Gaming and Entertainment LLC., which proposed $360 million to construct a casino in Des Plaines.
