Indiana Senate committee declines $17-million subsidy - 2004-02-25
A proposal that would have raised Indiana’s horse racing subsidies from casino taxes by $17-million a year was voted down by the state Senate on Monday.

Although the Republican-controlled Senate Finance Committee voted 8-7 on February 19 to increase the subsidies, Democratic opponents stymied the proposal on the basis that the money could have been allocated toward paying for kindergarten programs as the state faces a $1-billion budget deficit.
