Venetian exec resigns for new gaming company - 2004-02-26
Venetian hotel-casino proprietor Sheldon Adelson's right-hand man is leaving the firm to establish a new gaming resort in Las Vegas.

David Friedman, assistant to the chairman of the board, stated today that he has created a new company with two New York partners to establish a new property at an undisclosed site.
Friedman revealed his intent to leave to colleagues in a memorandum distributed Wednesday.

Authorities uncertain on whether act was reckless or purposely done - 2004-02-26
The deadly Paradise fire that burned over 56,000 acres in and around Valley Center last fall is being identified as arson, and investigators are zeroing in on a handful of suspects, authorities reported yesterday.

"There's a two-lane county road that goes down into the Rincon Valley, and then there's this hill, about 10 or 12 stories high," stated sheriff's Sgt. Darrell Carr. "Just beyond that is Mazzetti's gas station and a little store. There's not much else until you get down to Harrah's casino."
