Gambling Discussion Underway - 2004-02-26
Legislators, lobbyists and gaming officials centered on a big gambling measure Thursday.
The current bill proposes including an additiona five new casino licenses, establishing a taxing system for casinos, and whether or not to permit table games inside racetracks.

One amendment under contemplation takes credit card and ATM cash machines out of the betting areas, but it still permits them to go in the casinos, tracks and riverboats.

Hazel Raceway invests in $35 million upgrade - 2004-02-26
Hazel Park Harness Raceway is betting a $35 million expansion will overturn its dissipating attendance and betting on live and simulcast horse races.

“The casinos have come in and made their investments, now it’s time for us to compete back,” explained Daniel K. Adkins, chief operating officer of Hartman & Tyner Inc., in Southfield, which controls Hazel Park Harness Raceway as well as tracks in West Virginia and Florida.
