Poker has never been a huge moneymaker at casinos--or as TV content. Televised poker competitions used to be "as exciting as watching paint dry," confesses World Poker Tour producer Steven Lipscomb.

With million-dollar jackpots, the souped-up card game offered the Travel Channel its best ratings ever for a series and finalized a $40 million contract for Lipscomb to develop the show for six additional seasons.

1 dead in tragic accident - 2004-02-26
A Thornton man was killed this morning when his car spun out of control as he was attempting to pass two vehicles on U.S. 6 close to Golden and was hit by a bus, authorities reported.

Cochran notified investigators the four passengers on the bus were casino workers on their way home from work in the neighboring Black Hawk/Central City region, Watkins stated. One bus passenger was brought to a hospital for minor injuries.
