Casino to compensate $1.3m for phony draws - 2004-02-26
A United States hotel casino is to pay $US1 million in fines and expenses for rigging three contest draws. The Venetian casino agreed today to settle after a probe indicated the draws in February 2002 were a sham, according to a complaint by the Nevada Gaming Control Board.

The complaint and settlement demonstrate a casino executive hid the winning ticket for a Mercedes-Benz utility vehicle in his shirt sleeve and acted as though he drew it randomly.

Tennessee Governor Contests Proposed Casino - 2004-02-26
Gov. Phil Bredesen threw cold water Monday on the bid for casino gambling in Memphis -- possibly cold enough to freeze the plan for this year.

Bredesen's comments came on the eve of a scheduled legislative hearing today for a controversial measue to start the slow process of changing the Tennessee Constitution to permit casinos in Shelby County only. Casino gambling is outlawed by the Constitution; legalizing it would need a constitutional amendment authorized in a statewide vote.
