Solid economy bolsters PBL profits - 2004-02-26
Kerry Packer's Publishing & Broadcasting Ltd (PBL) reported a 45.8 percent increase in half year net profit to $273.797 million.
Cash flow created by PBL's businesses rose to $371.0 million for the half year, compared to $243.9 million for the the corresponding period from before.

During the half, PBL bought an additional 14.2 percent stake in the Burswood Casino for $78.5 million, and 25 percent of online employment business SEEK for exactly $30.4 million.

Ontario Finance Minister pushed to step down - 2004-02-26
Finance Minister Greg Sorbara must resign effectively from cabinet due to a criminal probe into a company he previously directed, Ontario's opposition parties stated Thursday.

Royal Group stated that the investigations centre on its dealings with a resort development on the Caribbean island of St. Kitts, controlled by Vic De Zen, the company's chairman, founder and controlling shareholder. The 1,000-room resort, spa and casino bought $32-million in goods and services from Royal Group during the past five years.
