Obsessive gambler reverses the tables on casino bosses - 2004-02-27
A compulsive gambler who lost his business and attempted to commit suicide after running up big debts on casino blackjack tables and roulette wheels has finally hit the jackpot in Austria.

The country's Appeals Court decided that Christian Hainz should be reimbursed €499,729 ($806,000) by the bosses of two casinos where he claimed he lost up to €2.5 million in a three-year betting binge.
He argued that the casino had neglected to help cure his gambling habit, and should compensate some of his losses.

Iowa House authorizes table games at racetracks - 2004-02-27
The Iowa House authorized a modified bill on Thursday that would permit table games like blackjack at state racetracks, including Prairie Meadows in Altoona.

The original measure would have permitted five new casinos. Rather, the House voted 73-26 to pass the altered bill, which in addition to adding table games at tracks could settle the thorny racetrack tax issue and asks for a moratorium on new gaming permits in counties that do not currently permit gambling, the Sioux City Journal reports.
