Victorians propelling billions into the pokies - 2004-02-28
The total number of Victorians who are losing on the pokies is on the rise with the sum losses of players throughout the state intended to top over $2.3 billion this financial year.
A new study by the Victorian Local Governance Association (VLGA) found that over a year after a smoking prohibition in gaming venues caused poker machine losses to drop by nearly 20 percent, the total Victorians are losing on gaming machines has started to slowly increase. The figures, which do not include Crown Casino's 2500 machines, indicate that in August 2002 Victorians lost $245 million on the machines.
