As reported by Bally's Las Vegas handicapper John Avello, this year's top Academy Award winners will be The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King and its director, Peter Jackson, plus Sean Penn, Charlize Theron, Tim Robbins and Renee Zellweger.

Don't bet on it.

In fact, you can't bet on it. Nevada law bans casino betting on events like the Academy Awards. That doesn't prevent Avello from posting odds on major Oscar races, same as horses, greyhounds and NASCAR drivers.

Gaming Board makes 7 casino bids public - 2004-02-06
State gambling regulators on Thursday revealed seven wide-ranging proposals for Illinois' last obtainable casino license, with proposals for Rosemont, Waukegan and DesPlaines leading the pack.

Owners of Elgin's Grand Victoria riverboat bid only $20 million to placed a second Grand Victoria in Summit, but their plan would permit the state to divide up the casino's profits.
