US powerhouses place city on casino-war footing - 2004-02-07
Gambling giants are to go head to head in Sheffield in what is being called "casino wars" as soon as plans were revealed for an additional super casino complex – taking the amount to three in under one week.
Earlier this week it was disclosed that Las Vegas gaming giant MGM Mirage expected to launch a "mega casino" next to Meadowhall shopping centre, under a £250m deal which could lead to 6,500 new jobs.
A similar project, containing 1,000 gaming machines, is also being scheduled in the Lower Don Valley region of Sheffield.
