Tribe's casino plans are not known - 2004-02-08
Even though the Cowlitz Tribe is widely believed to be preparing a casino in north Clark County, the tribe's plans for a 150 acre site near LaCenter are still doubtful even as a key meeting with county officials will soon arrive on Tuesday.

The county still as not seen a development bid for the tribe.
"Almost everybody who talks about this says they will build a casino," stated LaCenter City Councilman Richard Curtis. "However, the tribe isn't devoted to that, and until they do, anything can go there."

County legislator demands bigger share of slots profits - 2004-02-08
Saying the governor's slots legislation comes up all lemons for Anne Arundel, a county lawmaker expects to pursue a larger share of the profits.
Gov. Robert L. Ehrlich Jr.'s most recent measure would offer less impact funding than last year's version to pay for services and infrastructure if a slot machine casino is constructed at a Laurel Park racetrack.

This has provoked protests among county officials and legislators, such as those who've accepted money from gambling interests and those who contest legalizing slot machines in Maryland.
