Pessimists may have a difficult time admitting it, but a new study shows pessimism has its advantages.
Researchers discovered that a healthy dose of pessimism may come in handy in many real-life circumstances where optimists may too hopeful.

In a diverse range of tests, researchers then had the students play several hands of blackjack and play a mock-up slot machine game.

Legislators divided over expansion - 2004-02-09
State legislators are divided on whether to expand gambling in Iowa, with close to half who responded to a poll saying the state shouldn't hand out more casino licenses.
Two-thirds of the Legislature answered a survey produced by The Des Moines Register, with 47 percent admitting they opposed granting new licenses vs. 40 percent in favor. The remainder were undecided.

The question of whether to permit table games like blackjack at racetrack casinos drew an even narrow divide.
