Big Island locals harbor questions as meetings start today - 2004-03-01
The public hearings that start tonight in Rock Island are likely to appear more like trial court than city council assemblies.
On one side, an attorney for RiverStone Group Inc. is intended to dispute that sand and gravel mining on Big Island will not hurt a thing.

Their ruling could have a major impact on the city’s destiny because Big Island mining is directly linked to the proposed $92 million relocation of Jumer’s Casino Rock Island.

Bay Area ball teams prepare sponsorships - 2004-03-01
Opening Day for the Oakland A's and San Francisco Giants is still a month away, but the teams are currently scoring with corporate sponsors.

The A's say they have pulled in an additional 15 percent in sponsorship revenue compared to last year. Companies like Pepsi Co. Inc., Bank of America Corp., Anheuser-Busch Co. and Cache Creek Casino Resort have renewed existing settlements.
