A vacant U.S. Senate seat in Illinois has lured a millionaires club of candidates.
Seven of the 15 Republicans and Democrats on the ballot are millionaires, much of them with little or no political background but a willingness to spend plenty of their own cash to join the elite club of 100.

This time, the financial stakes are greater: Blair Hull, a Democrat who parlayed $25,000 in blackjack winnings into a commodities trading business he sold for $531 million, has pledged to spend $40 million of his own funds in his first run for public office.

Tribes contest casino bids - 2004-03-11
Denise Sargent and Mikayla Schaaf arrived onto the Capitol on Tuesday to tell the tale of lives changed by slots and blackjack.

Both are associates of the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe and were part of a big convoy of tribe members and casino staff members who filled the steps of the Capitol to counter what they believe is an anti-Indian gaming tilt at the Minnesota Legislature this year.
