Nevada Casino Gets Boost of 1.8 Percent For Fiscal Year - 2004-03-11
A January win of $882.1 million for Nevada casinos thrusted their fiscal-year total to $5.71 billion - but Gov. Kenny Guinn stated Thursday the total amounts to a "paltry" 1.8 percent gain from one year prior.

"The good news is that sales tax activity is ahead of projections, but does not completely offset gaming activity," Guinn explained as the Gaming Control Board's casino win report was publicly disclosed.

Georgetown is no place for slots - 2004-03-11
Georgetown seems a most unusual spot for a gambling casino. In Delaware, slots are permitted only at horseracing establishments, including Dover and Harrington. In Maryland, all but one possible site for slots are also racetracks.

As for the attempt to prevent loss of gambling dollars to neighboring states, constructing a casino complex in the middle of a rural district likely won't stem that tide.
