Harrah’s increases pressure for Illinois casino license - 2004-03-11
As the race to win Illinois's tenth and final casino license came down to the wire on Wednesday, Harrah’s Entertainment Inc., the Las Vegas-based gaming business that controls Louisiana Downs and one-third of Turfway Park, surpassed two other bidders by increasing its offer in the 14-round auction to $520-million.
Harrah’s primarily offered $375-million to operate a casino in Waukegan while Isle of Capri offered $351-million for a casino in Rosemont and Midwest offered $360-million to construct a casino in Des Plaines.
