Losing Chicago Communities Examine High-Stakes Casino Bidding War - 2004-03-16
Locals of Des Plaines and Waukegan found out Monday what it meant to be a loser in the high-stakes bidding war for the state's final casino license.
"I was really upset," stated Vicky Stavrou, proprietor of Mrs. V's Family Restaurant, just north of what would have been the casino site in Des Plaines on River Road. "I had tears in my eyes."
Elected officials made an effort to find a bright side, such as profitable projects in their cities' futures not linked to blackjack or slots.
