Proposed measure opens door for gambling development in Iowa - 2004-03-18
A Senate subcommittee authorized a bill Wednesday that could, if some legislators have their way, open the door to developed gambling.
Although the House bill made it through the subcommittee without modifications, senators cautioned that as many as a dozen amendments are in the works before the measure makes it to floor debate within the next two weeks.

Some legislators have pledged a provision permitting for new riverboat casinos. The House measure maintained a 1998 moratorium on new casinos.

Ex-Nevada casino exec pursues congressional seat - 2004-03-18
Ex-casino executive Tom Gallagher has publicized he'll run as a Democrat in Nevada's Congressional District three against first-term Republican Representative Jon Porter.

Gallagher, making his debut in Nevada politics, claims he has received solid support from Democrats at the state and national level, and expects his race will be in the spotlight this election year.
