'Bingo for Books' gets rapid beginning, clears Senate panel - 2004-03-02
Legislation to extend high-stakes bingo to each Alabama dog track and use taxes from the games to purchase school textbooks got off to a whirlwind beginning in the Legislature.

Dial's legislation would extend bingo to the dog tracks in Birmingham and Mobile, permit them to offer infinite jackpots, and place a 10 percent state tax and 4 percent local tax on the net revenue from the bingo games at all four tracks.

Illusionist from casino mauling incident walks with aid - 2004-03-02
Five months after he was mauled by a tiger, illusionist Roy Horn of “Siegfried & Roy” was capable of walking again with the assistance of a wheeled walking aid, a representative for the duo stated Tuesday.

Horn was tackled by a 300-pound white tiger on Oct. 3, in his stage act in Las Vegas. The tiger tackled Horn in a sold-out performance at The Mirage hotel-casino.
