Casino gambling approaching Lakewood's vice hit list - 2004-03-02
First it was the sex industry. Now it's minicasinos.
Lakewood officials have fought for six months to restrict adult entertainment to one part of the community. Now they're back to lobbying the Legislature for the right to zone another vice: gambling.
The Washington State Gambling Commission, however, contests the bill, arguing that offering local governments the authority to zone could result in corruption and preferential treatment, as well as an explosion of new minicasinos.
