Some readers believed my column regarding the Perry woman who experienced a radical turn of fortune at a Michigan casino delivered the wrong message.

A letter from Jeff Visscher of Eaton Rapids read: "I was troubled by the top billing and hype given your column about the ex-Wohlert worker's wife, who won $1 million at the slots."

"My medical insurance is gone. I don't know if I'll receive a pension. So what do I do now? I HIT THE SLOTS!"

Two huge casino operators are enhancing customer-relationship-management efforts by implementing data from their resorts. Last week, Ascential Software Corp. reported MGM Mirage is using its Ascential Enterprise Integration Suite to establish a terabyte-scale data warehouse with 50 million customer records from the business' eight U.S. casinos, to give MGM Mirage improved insight into its guests' spending habits and aid its marketing and customer-loyalty programs.
