Slots measure could receive a fresh slate - 2004-03-22
A solid Philadelphia senator Monday signaled his openness to omit the key stumbling block that could lead to legalizing slots and slashing property taxes.
Sen. Vincent Fumo, ranking Democrat on the Senate Appropriations Committee, stated he is near to abandoning his insistence that a slot license be set aside for American Indians.

That could pave the path for eventual authorization of a plan to legalize slots at eight horse racing tracks and four parlors, including one in downtown Pittsburgh.

NCAA again checking up on Las Vegas sports books - 2004-03-22
An executive with the NCAA who was a spectator in a series of Las Vegas sports books in the opening rounds of the NIT and NCAA basketball tournaments last week claims his colleagues will likely be shocked to learn how many multiple ways there are to bet on a basketball game.

Still, he stated he found nothing optimistic about the sports book environment or the culture of betting on amateur or collegiate sports. He stated he limited his observations mainly to the sports books and not other casino games or activities.
