Various legislators view slot licenses as golden egg - 2004-03-23
Salivating at Illinois' recent jackpot from auctioning a casino license, Pennsylvania legislators are taking a new look at selling slot-machine licenses to the greatest bidders instead of charging a flat rate.

Pennsylvania is contemplating the legalization of 12 slot licenses -- eight at horse-racing tracks and four at stand-alone parlors, including one Downtown. School-property taxpayers statewide would receive rebates of 20 percent on average.

Schwarzenegger encourages Congress to decline gambling modifications - 2004-03-23
Congress should keep state restrictions on a new class of gambling machines that, if unregulated, would greatly harm California's chances to renegotiate tribal casino contracts and demand a share of gaming profits, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger stated Tuesday.

Finally, the measure would permit regulation of slot machines by the National Indian Gaming Commission rather than by states, but asserts that tribes themselves "retain primary jurisdiction" over slot machines operation.
