Senate committee declines new bid to include casino riverboats - 2004-03-24
Iowa communities anticipating landing new riverboat casinos were dealt a setback Tuesday by a Senate panel as it authorized a major gambling measure.

The Senate State Government Committee declined a proposal by new casino supporters that would have opened the door for as many as five additional riverboats in Iowa. But local casino boosters pledged to take their battle to the Senate floor.

Iowa Senate President places burden on gambling - 2004-03-24
Iowa Senate President Jeff Lamberti stated gambling interests have until the end of the day today to create a solution for mending the state’s gaming tax structure.

Craig Schoenfeld, who represents the Dubuque Greyhound Park & Casino, emerged from Lamberti’s office and refused to comment on discussions or to state whether a deal had been met. Lamberti said if talks fail, legislators could end up passing a gambling bill in the closing weeks of session that only sets new tax rates.
