School authorities don’t want to gamble on vote - 2004-03-03
School officials from Snyder and Union counties voiced opposition to a potential referendum connected to gambling and property tax cuts during a forum with state legislators Tuesday evening at the Donald Eichhorn Middle School in Lewisburg.

Gordner stated Rendell’s gambling plan has been under additional development since it was originally mentioned. He is now suggesting 12 licenses and up to 5,000 slot machines per license, as well as an Indian casino and slots parlors in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh.

Hesperia casino measure seems assured for an OK - 2004-03-03
The contract between the city and an American Indian tribe for a casino at Main Street and Interstate 15 was winning support from the region in Tuesday's election.

With only absentee ballots reporting, 66 percent preferred Measure X, which ratifies the municipal services deal the city made with the Timbisha-Shoshone tribe. The MSA would give the city almost $7 million annually over 20 years, while the city offers services, like police and fire protection, to the casino.
