Detroit confronted with $264 million debt - 2004-03-03
The city of Detroit is being confronted with a budget shortfall of $264 million, officials stated Wednesday as they issued a caution to the City Council that hard choices will have to be made for the coming fiscal year.
The city’s budget problems stem from a host of funding cuts, including the fact that it no longer will get $46 million from deals settled with the city’s three casino developers.

Cops claim suspects rejoiced with martinis - 2004-03-03
After taking $600 from an 89-year-old woman's purse, two robbery suspects strolled a few blocks to a restaurant and rejoiced by drinking martinis, Spokane police Chief Roger Bragdon stated.

The couple, who have been married for 52 years, were heading to Northern Quest Casino.
The suspects ‘‘formulated a plan immediately” as soon as they saw Ensminger with the purse, Miller reported.
