Kentucky House to Contemplate Authorization of Casino Gambling - 2004-03-04
Legislation to authorize casino gambling in Kentucky will inevitably to go to the House next week. After an informational hearing yesterday, Rep. Denver Butler, D-Louisville, stated gambling will come up for a vote Wednesday in the House Licensing & Occupations Committee.

Clark has proposed a constitutional amendment to permit casino gambling at nine sites around the state -- five at racetracks and four elsewhere. The state calculates the casinos could garner $1.25 billion annually in revenue when mature, with the state getting 35 percent of that.

Pawlenty stays clear of gambling, set aside in budget fix - 2004-03-04
Gov. Tim Pawlenty reported Thursday he won't call for extended casino gambling or use cash from a state reserve account to equalize the state budget.

Pawlenty's administration has been having private conversations with American Indian tribal leaders that could lead to renegotation of gambling compacts. The tribes have a virtual monopoly in casino gambling for 15 years and the state sees rarely any of the profits.
