GOP legislators want to bar slots - 2004-03-04
A pair of Republican legislators is proposing banning slot machines commencing in 2006 if American Indian tribes decline to renegotiate their gambling compacts with the state.

The bill wouldn't impact pull-tabs, bingo, poker, blackjack, horse racing or the lottery.
John McCarthy, executive director of the Minnesota Indian Gaming Association, stated he was taken aback by the proposal to prohibit slot machines.

Gambling Legislation Brought to Kentucky - 2004-03-04
Legislation to introduce casino gambling to Kentucky was introduced in both chambers of the General Assembly. Two ranking legislators immediately voiced doubts about its odds. The law envisions nine casinos -- five controlled by the state's horse tracks and four independent casinos elsewhere in the state.

The gaming commission would determine what games casinos would provide. The games could feature poker, keno, blackjack, craps and roulette. The legislation calls for casinos to be operated within close proximity to the Ohio River and the Tennessee border.
