Mayor Urging To Let Poker Tourney Stay Downtown - 2004-03-04
In a motion that Indian gambling advocates described as "unconscionable extortion," two state lawmakers claimed Wednesday that they will bring in bills to ban video slot machines unless the tribes are in accord to renegotiate their monopoly gambling compacts.

The 19,000 video slots in Minnesota are the most profitable form of gambling at the state's 18 tribal casinos, accounting for 80 percent of revenues. Any attempt to curb them would have monumental impacts.

Franklin Co. folds on casino gaming permits - 2004-03-04
Approximately one month following Franklin County's "yes" vote to a possible gambling excursion boat just off Interstate 35 and Highway 3, the Iowa House of Representatives voted "no" late last Thursday evening.

Carroll was adamantly against seeing new casinos in the state as the vote arrived shortly following a key amendment was issued by Carroll banning any new gambling licenses and slot machines.
